Could taking iron every other day be just as good for anemia in pregnancy?
NCT ID NCT06492512
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether taking an iron pill every other day works as well as taking one daily for pregnant women with iron-deficiency anemia. About 120 pregnant women with low iron will be randomly assigned to one of two schedules. The goal is to see if both approaches can raise hemoglobin and ferritin levels enough to reverse the anemia.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ferrous sulfate (iron pill)
- What this could lead to
- If this trial succeeds, it could show that taking iron every other day works just as well as daily dosing, making treatment easier for pregnant women.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study (120 participants) comparing two common dosing schedules, so results may not apply to all pregnant women. The difference between groups may be small or not clinically meaningful.
