Could removing excess brain iron slow down ALS?

NCT ID NCT02164253

Summary

This small pilot study tested whether a drug called deferiprone, which removes excess iron from the body, is safe and might help slow the progression of ALS. The study involved 23 people with ALS and looked for changes in their symptoms and functional abilities over time. The main goal was to check if the treatment was safe and to see if reducing iron in the brain could help protect nerve cells.
