First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a mobile app called iPREPARED that helps patients and their caregivers prepare for a hospital stay. The app provides videos and tips to prevent or reduce delirium, a sudden confused state common in older adults. Researchers want to see if the app is easy to use and if it can lower the risk and severity of delirium. The study involves 120 patient-caregiver pairs aged 60 and older.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a simple, non-drug way to reduce delirium and distress for older hospital patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small feasibility study, so results may not apply widely. The study is currently suspended, and the app may not work for everyone.
