New antibiotic delivery method tested in shoulder surgery

NCT ID NCT05831774

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looks at two methods of giving the antibiotic vancomycin during shoulder replacement surgery: standard IV (into a vein) versus intraosseous (into the bone). Researchers want to see if both methods deliver similar levels of the drug to bone and tissue. About 33 adults having shoulder replacement will take part. The goal is to learn if the bone injection works as well as the IV, which could change how antibiotics are given in the future.
