Scientists grow Mini-Guts to unlock secrets of bowel diseases

This study aimed to better understand the root causes of inflammatory bowel diseases (like Crohn's and colitis) and a genetic condition called familial adenomatous polyposis. Researchers grew tiny 3D models of the intestine, called 'organoids,' from tissue samples of 110 patients and healthy volunteers. By studying these mini-guts, they hoped to learn how specific stem cells and biological pathways behave differently in these diseases, which could inform the development of future treatments.
