Can a lack of oxygen weaken your breathing muscles?
NCT ID NCT06714435
First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looked at whether repeated low oxygen levels, like those seen in sleep apnea, can reduce the endurance of breathing muscles. Twenty-eight healthy volunteers did a breathing test after 6 hours of normal air and after 6 hours of low oxygen air. The goal was to see if oxygen deprivation alone, without poor sleep, affects how long someone can breathe against resistance.
