Healthy volunteers to unlock secrets of sleep apnea in new hypoxia study

NCT ID NCT07409649

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how brief periods of low oxygen (intermittent hypoxia) affect a measure called 'loop gain,' which reflects how your body controls breathing. Researchers want to understand if these oxygen dips can make breathing control less stable, which may help explain sleep apnea. Forty healthy adults aged 18-45 will spend 6 hours in a special chamber, either breathing normal air or air with low oxygen, while their breathing is measured.
