First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a program led by community health workers can improve lung health for 800 people in Bhaktapur, Nepal, who are at risk for chronic respiratory diseases. The program includes tobacco cessation counseling, mask use during high pollution, handwashing, and flu vaccines. Participants will be followed for 40 months with breathing tests and activity monitors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
community health worker-delivered multi-component respiratory health program (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that community-based programs can prevent chronic lung diseases like asthma and COPD in high-risk populations.
What could go wrong
This is a single-site trial in Nepal, so results may not apply elsewhere. The intervention is complex and depends on consistent participation over 40 months.
