Ear zaps may tweak Breathing—But only in the lab

NCT ID NCT07482930

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a 10-minute, non-invasive electrical stimulation on the outer ear can temporarily affect lung function in healthy adults aged 18-40. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either real stimulation or a sham (fake) version, and will do breathing tests before and after. The goal is to understand how the vagus nerve might influence breathing, not to treat any disease. There is no direct benefit to participants, and side effects are usually mild (like tingling or warmth at the ear).
