Ear zaps and lung tests: can a 10-Minute stimulation alter breathing?

NCT ID NCT07482930

First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a brief, painless electrical stimulation on the outer ear can temporarily affect lung function in healthy adults aged 18-40. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either real or fake (sham) stimulation for about 10 minutes, and will perform breathing tests before and after. The goal is to understand how the vagus nerve, which controls many automatic body functions, might influence breathing. There is no direct benefit to participants, but the results could help design future studies on nerve stimulation and respiratory health.
