First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether playing with an interactive toy or a robot during nebulized inhalation treatment reduces anxiety and fear in children aged 4-10 in the pediatric emergency department. 72 children were randomly assigned to use an interactive doll, a robot, or standard care. The goal is to find a simple, non-drug way to make scary medical procedures less stressful for kids.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Interactive doll and interactive robot
What this could lead to
If effective, interactive toys and robots could become a simple, drug-free way to ease anxiety and fear in children during medical procedures like nebulized inhalation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 72 children, so results may not apply to all settings. The effect may be small or no different from standard care.
