Video games on the floor may ease kids' post-surgery pain

NCT ID NCT06571123

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether an interactive floor projection — where kids step on virtual balloons to pop them — could reduce pain and help them move sooner after surgery. 84 children aged 3-6 were randomly assigned to use the interactive floor or receive standard care. Researchers measured pain scores and how long children were able to mobilize. The goal was to see if distraction through play could improve recovery.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

interactive floor projection system

What this could lead to

If it works, this could give hospitals a simple, fun way to help children feel less pain and move earlier after surgery without extra medication.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with 84 children, so results may not apply to all surgeries or ages. The effect may be modest and not replace standard pain care.
