Simple map may end painful insulin lumps for diabetes patients
NCT ID NCT07561086
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a visual injection site map to help people with diabetes rotate where they inject insulin. The goal was to reduce lipohypertrophy—lumpy fatty tissue caused by repeated shots in the same spot—and improve blood sugar control. 170 adults on insulin for at least six months took part, with half using the map and half getting standard verbal advice. Over six months, researchers checked for lumps, how well patients followed rotation, and changes in HbA1c and blood sugar levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Insulin Injection Site Mapping Tool (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If it works, this simple mapping tool could help people with diabetes avoid painful lumps and get more stable blood sugar from their insulin shots.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 170 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The tool is just a guide—it won't replace careful injection habits or medical advice.
