Brain scan study tests if insulin can curb food cravings

NCT ID NCT01239550

Summary

This study is testing whether adding a specific long-acting insulin (detemir) to a low-calorie diet helps people with type 2 diabetes and obesity lose more weight than dieting alone. Researchers want to see if the insulin works by changing brain activity related to pleasure and reward from food. About 240 participants were assigned to follow either just the diet, or the diet plus the insulin, over 26 weeks, with brain scans and other tests to measure effects.
