Could special gloves save more lives during cardiac arrest?
NCT ID NCT07299188
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether wearing electrically insulated gloves during defibrillation allows rescuers to continue chest compressions without stopping, which current guidelines require for safety. Researchers will compare survival and recovery rates between standard CPR and CPR with these gloves in 32 adult cardiac arrest patients with shockable heart rhythms. A manikin test will first check safety and feasibility.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
electrically insulated composite gloves (Class 2)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a simple change in CPR practice that reduces interruptions during defibrillation, potentially improving survival and neurological outcomes for cardiac arrest patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 32 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The gloves might not be safe or effective in real-world emergencies, and the study is not yet recruiting, so findings are pending.
