Summary

This pilot study tested a new algorithm that estimates breathing effort noninvasively in patients receiving high-flow nasal oxygen. Researchers included 20 adults in intensive care who were on this oxygen therapy to prevent intubation or reintubation. The goal was to see if the algorithm could reliably detect inspiratory efforts using only pressure and flow signals from the oxygen device.
