First seen Jul 07, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether far infrared radiation and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) can reduce common side effects in people with head and neck cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy. Participants are randomly assigned to standard care alone, standard care plus TENS, or standard care plus both far infrared and TENS. The study measures changes in shoulder pain, neck movement, mouth opening, mouth sores, inflammation, and nausea over two five-day treatment cycles.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
far infrared radiation and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
What this could lead to
If effective, these therapies could offer drug-free ways to ease common side effects of head and neck cancer treatment, improving quality of life during therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with 102 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The therapies are add-ons to standard care, and benefits may be modest or not statistically significant.
