Maternal microbes may fix C-Section baby gut health

NCT ID NCT07212361

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether bacteria from the mother can restore the natural gut health of babies born by C-section better than standard probiotics. About 100 healthy infants will receive a daily oral bacterial product for one or four weeks. Researchers will compare their gut bacteria to untreated C-section and vaginally born babies to see if the treatment makes their gut microbiome more similar to that of vaginally born infants.
