First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a starter infant formula with added human milk oligosaccharides (2'FL and LNnT) can improve gut health and immune development in healthy Chinese infants. About 262 babies will be randomly assigned to receive either the special formula or a standard formula, with a breastfed group as reference. The trial runs until the babies are 12 months old, measuring gut bacteria and other health markers.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Infant formula with added human milk oligosaccharides (2'FL and LNnT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that adding these HMOs to formula helps support gut health and immune development in formula-fed infants, similar to breastfed babies.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study in healthy infants, so results may not apply to other populations. The benefits may be small or not clinically meaningful.
