New drug cuts painful sickle cell crises in phase 3 trial

Summary
This study tested a drug called inclacumab in 241 people aged 12 and older with sickle cell disease who often have painful vaso-occlusive crises. The drug works by blocking a protein that helps blood cells stick together, aiming to reduce how often these pain episodes happen. Results showed fewer crises over 48 weeks compared to a placebo, offering a potential new option to manage this serious condition.
