Sitting around could make you hungrier, study suggests

NCT ID NCT06240208

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at what happens to appetite when physically active men aged 40-55 suddenly become inactive for two weeks. Forty healthy, normal-weight men who bike or exercise regularly will either keep their routine or cut steps to under 1,500 per day. Researchers will measure how much they eat and their food cravings to see if inactivity messes with appetite control.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could help explain why inactivity makes people eat more, pointing to ways to prevent weight gain.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study in healthy men only, so results may not apply to everyone. It looks at short-term changes, not long-term effects.
