Same-Day tooth crowns: just as good as waiting?
NCT ID NCT04319042
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether placing a permanent crown on a dental implant right away (immediate loading) works as well as waiting 4 weeks (early loading) for lower first molars. About 100 adults who need a tooth removed and replaced will get an implant 12-16 weeks after extraction, then receive a crown either immediately or after a month. Researchers will check implant survival, gum health, and patient satisfaction after 12 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- dental implant
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that getting a tooth crown on the same day as implant placement works just as well as waiting 4 weeks, saving time and visits.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (100 people) comparing two established procedures, so it's unlikely to change practice dramatically. Risks include implant failure or infection.
