IVF breakthrough? study tests if immediate embryo transfer boosts birth rates

NCT ID NCT04371783

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether transferring a frozen embryo in the first menstrual cycle after egg retrieval leads to more live births than waiting until the second cycle. Over 800 women undergoing their first frozen embryo transfer are randomly assigned to immediate or delayed transfer. The goal is to find the best timing for IVF success.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If immediate transfer works better, it could simplify IVF treatment and shorten the time to pregnancy for many women.

What could go wrong

This is a single-center study in China, so results may not apply to all IVF patients. The difference in live birth rates may be small or not significant.
