Heart stent study tests if special cameras beat standard X-Ray for reopening clogged arteries

NCT ID NCT07297641

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two methods for guiding a second stent procedure in people whose drug-coated stents have re-narrowed. One method uses standard X-ray (angiography), the other adds detailed imaging from inside the artery. The goal is to see which approach leads to fewer major heart events. About 1,500 participants will be followed for at least a year.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedure

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that using advanced imaging during a second stent procedure lowers the risk of future heart problems compared to standard X-ray guidance.

What could go wrong

This is a large trial, but it only includes first-time restenosis in native arteries, so results may not apply to all patients. The benefit of imaging guidance may be small or not outweigh added complexity.
