Standing CT could spot arthritis early after ankle breaks
NCT ID NCT03809520
First seen Apr 25, 2026 ยท Last updated Apr 25, 2026
Summary
This study tested a new low-cost, low-dose standing CT scanner to see if it can detect early signs of joint wear and tear after an ankle fracture. Researchers followed 97 adults aged 18 to 70 who had surgery for a broken ankle, tracking changes in joint space and pain over 18 months to 5 years. The goal was to find a better way to predict who might develop post-traumatic osteoarthritis, so future treatments can be tested more effectively.
