Timing of eye membrane peeling may affect complication risk after retinal detachment surgery

NCT ID NCT07346560

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at 100 people with uncomplicated retinal detachment who need surgery. Doctors will peel a thin membrane from the back of the eye either during the first surgery or later when silicone oil is removed. The goal is to see which timing leads to fewer complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Internal limiting membrane peeling (a surgical procedure)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help surgeons choose the best timing for this procedure to reduce complications after retinal detachment repair.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The study only looks at complication rates, not long-term vision outcomes.
