Which stoma is safer? new trial aims to settle the debate
NCT ID NCT07283952
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two types of temporary stomas (loop ileostomy and loop transverse colostomy) created after colorectal surgery to protect the bowel connection from leaking. About 36 adults having planned or emergency colorectal surgery will be randomly assigned to one stoma type. The goal is to see which stoma leads to fewer leaks, complications, and hospital readmissions.
