Could a protein on blood cancer cells lead to a new treatment?
NCT ID NCT07455500
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at a protein called IL-1RAP found on the surface of certain blood cancer cells in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Researchers want to see if this protein can be targeted by a special immune therapy called CAR-T cells. They will collect bone marrow and blood samples from 120 people with MDS to study the protein and test the therapy in the lab and in mice. This is a first step toward possibly developing a new treatment for high-risk MDS.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
IL-1RAP-targeted CAR-T cells (investigational immunotherapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new immunotherapy treatment for high-risk myelodysplastic syndromes, a condition with few options beyond stem cell transplant.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, lab-based study using patient samples and mice. It does not test the therapy in humans yet, so it may not work in actual patients.
