Can a simple glue stop Post-Surgery fluid pockets in breast cancer patients?

NCT ID NCT01742975

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a surgical glue called Ifabond can reduce seroma—painful fluid collections—after breast cancer surgery. 104 women having partial mastectomy with or without lymph node removal were randomly assigned to receive standard surgery plus the glue or standard surgery alone. The main goal was to measure fluid volume and ultrasound findings at 15 and 30 days after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Ifabond (surgical glue)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could reduce painful fluid collections after breast cancer surgery, lowering the need for needle drainage and improving comfort.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with 104 patients. The glue may not significantly reduce seroma, and some people may be allergic to cyanoacrylate.
