Virus therapy takes on tough tumors
NCT ID NCT06380309
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial tests an oncolytic virus (IDOV-SAFE) in about 89 people with advanced digestive cancers, like colorectal or stomach cancer, that have not responded to standard treatments. The virus is designed to infect and kill cancer cells. Some participants may also receive two other drugs (toripalimab and fruquintinib) to boost the effect. The main goals are to check safety and see if tumors shrink.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
oncolytic virus (IDOV-SAFE) with possible addition of toripalimab and fruquintinib
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced digestive cancers that no longer respond to standard therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial (Phase 1) focused on safety. The virus may not shrink tumors, and side effects could be serious. Success is far from guaranteed.
