ICU drug showdown: can new combo calm racing hearts and save lives?

NCT ID NCT02118467

Summary

This study aims to find out if using the blood pressure drugs phenylephrine and vasopressin is better than the standard drugs norepinephrine and epinephrine for adults in the ICU with shock. The main goal is to see if the new drug combination causes fewer dangerous fast heart rhythms and leads to more people surviving their hospital stay. About 836 patients whose low blood pressure doesn't improve with IV fluids will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two drug combinations without their doctors knowing which one.
