Could a simple dye replace painful stents in endometriosis surgery?
NCT ID NCT06852248
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether using a dye called indocyanine green to highlight the ureters during endometriosis surgery causes less pain and fewer side effects than the standard method of placing temporary plastic stents. The trial will recruit 70 women aged 18–50 who are scheduled for deep endometriosis surgery. The goal is to see if the dye method is feasible and acceptable before a larger study.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Indocyanine green (ICG) dye
What this could lead to
If this approach works, it could reduce post-surgery pain and side effects for women with deep endometriosis, while keeping the ureters safe during surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 70 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The dye method might not protect the ureters as well as stenting, or could cause other issues.
