New hope for older myeloma patients: drug combo shows promise
NCT ID NCT05527340
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing two drug combinations—iberdomide plus dexamethasone, with or without daratumumab—in 140 newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients aged 65 or older who are not eligible for a stem cell transplant. The goal is to see how well these treatments control the cancer and how safe they are, especially in frail patients. Participants will receive treatment until the disease worsens or side effects become unacceptable.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
iberdomide, dexamethasone, and daratumumab
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for older or frail patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma who cannot have a stem cell transplant.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with only 140 participants, not randomized, so results may not be definitive. The drugs can cause side effects like low blood counts, infections, and fatigue.
