Thyroid surgery aftermath: can magnesium predict calcium crash?

NCT ID NCT07582562

First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study follows 300 adults in Estonia who have their entire thyroid gland removed. The goal is to find out who is most likely to develop hypoparathyroidism—a condition where calcium levels drop after surgery—and whether low magnesium plays a role. Participants answer a questionnaire and provide blood samples before and after surgery. The results will help doctors better predict and prevent this complication.
