Hidden hormone problem may be worsening diabetes

NCT ID NCT07156370

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study will check how common a condition called hypercortisolism (too much of the stress hormone cortisol) is in people with type 2 diabetes that is hard to control despite standard treatments. Researchers will also see if cortisol levels in saliva are linked to blood sugar control. About 500 adults aged 18 to 80 with difficult-to-manage diabetes will take part. The goal is to better understand this possible connection, not to test a new treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help doctors identify a hidden cause of difficult-to-control diabetes and suggest new ways to monitor it.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not test any therapy, so it cannot directly improve patient outcomes. Results may not apply to all diabetes patients.
