Summary

This study tested two drugs, hydroxyurea and metformin, in 96 people with transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia to see if they could reduce the need for blood transfusions. Participants took one of the drugs daily for a year. The goal was to measure changes in fetal hemoglobin, transfusion frequency, and quality of life.
