Can a lupus drug protect kidneys in IgA disease? new trial aims to find out.

NCT ID NCT06350630

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether hydroxychloroquine, a drug already used for lupus, can slow kidney function decline in people with IgA nephropathy (Berger's disease). About 334 adults with biopsy-confirmed IgA nephropathy and high protein in their urine will receive either hydroxychloroquine or a placebo for up to 2 years. The goal is to see if the drug helps preserve kidney function and reduce protein leakage.
