New diaper rash treatment tested on tiniest infants
NCT ID NCT07186907
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a hydrocolloid dressing (a sticky, protective patch) works better than zinc oxide cream for treating diaper rash in newborns and infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Researchers tracked 44 babies over 72 hours to see how quickly their rash healed. The goal is to find a gentler, more effective treatment for these vulnerable infants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Hydrocolloid dressing (device) and zinc oxide cream (drug)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more effective and faster way to heal diaper rash in fragile NICU infants, reducing discomfort and skin damage.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed quasi-experimental study with only 44 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The hydrocolloid dressing may not heal rash faster than standard cream.
