Firefighters test a new tool to beat dehydration
NCT ID NCT06954909
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a 25-minute hydration education session plus a self-assessment worksheet can help wildland firefighters and other active people drink more fluids and stay hydrated. About 38 participants who are underhydrated will be split into two groups: one gets the education and worksheet, the other does not. Researchers will measure fluid turnover and urine concentration to see if the intervention works.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Hydration education and self-assessment worksheet
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to help firefighters and other active people stay better hydrated, potentially improving performance and long-term health.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-stage study with only 38 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is behavioral, so adherence and long-term effects are uncertain.
