Could a simple gel boost gum surgery results?
NCT ID NCT07529340
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Gum recession exposes tooth roots, causing sensitivity and cosmetic concerns. Standard surgery (CAF + SCTG) covers the root, but healing can be slow. This trial tests whether adding a hyaluronic acid gel (hyaDENT BG®) to the surgery improves root coverage and recovery. Thirty-four adults with single gum recession defects will be randomly assigned to surgery with or without the gel, and followed for 12 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel (hyaDENT BG®)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could make gum surgery more effective at covering exposed roots and reduce pain or healing time.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 34 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The gel is an add-on, not a replacement for surgery, and may not provide significant benefit.
