Can vaccinated donor cells fight HPV cancers? early trial begins
NCT ID NCT04713046
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-phase trial tests whether immune cells from a vaccinated relative can help treat advanced HPV16-related cancers. Up to 24 patients will receive either a bone marrow transplant or a special infusion of donor immune cells. The main goals are to check safety and find the best dose.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Immune cells (CD4+ T cells) from a related donor vaccinated against HPV16, given with or without a bone marrow transplant
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for advanced HPV16-related cancers that have not responded to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial (24 people) focused on safety and dosing. The treatment may not shrink tumors or could cause serious side effects like graft-versus-host disease.
