Scientists probe why vaccines work less well in elderly

NCT ID NCT06128915

Summary

This study aims to understand why older adults often have weaker immune responses to pneumonia vaccines compared to younger people. Researchers will examine how a specific type of white blood cell (neutrophils) functions differently with age and how this affects vaccine protection. The study involves giving the Prevnar-13 vaccine to 60 healthy volunteers (both young adults 21-40 and elderly adults 65+) and tracking their immune responses over time.
