Scientists test if hormone pills can curb monthly suicide risk spike

NCT ID NCT04112368

Summary

This study investigated why suicidal thoughts often worsen around a woman's period. Researchers gave 124 women with recent suicidal thoughts either a hormone-stabilizing treatment or a placebo for two weeks around their menstrual cycle. The goal was to see if preventing the natural hormone drop reduces suicidal thinking and to understand the biological reasons behind this monthly risk pattern.
