First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will follow 1,000 adults in Hong Kong who have both type 2 diabetes and a common fatty liver condition called MASLD. Researchers will collect health data and blood samples over time to see how the liver disease progresses and to find early markers of serious liver scarring. The goal is to better understand the link between diabetes and liver disease and improve future monitoring and care.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could identify early warning signs and biomarkers that help predict who will develop severe liver damage, pointing toward better monitoring and prevention strategies.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It cannot prove cause and effect, and results may not apply to other populations. The findings will need further validation.
