Can a new pill quiet the lingering fire of shingles nerve pain?
NCT ID NCT07758920
First seen Aug 11, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether an experimental tablet called HL-1186 can reduce the persistent nerve pain that sometimes lingers after a shingles rash heals, a condition known as postherpetic neuralgia. About 200 adults with this pain will receive either HL-1186, a placebo, or the standard drug pregabalin for 12 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in daily pain scores and watch for side effects to see if HL-1186 is both safe and effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- HL-1186 tablet
- What this could lead to
- If successful, HL-1186 could offer a new oral option to reduce chronic nerve pain after shingles, potentially with fewer side effects than current treatments.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 trial with 200 participants, so results may not hold up in larger studies. The drug could also fail to outperform existing treatments or cause unexpected side effects.
