Old HIV drug repurposed to hunt and kill hidden virus

NCT ID NCT06823596

Summary

This study is testing if adding an old HIV drug, efavirenz, to a person's current treatment can kill cells that are still producing small amounts of HIV. It focuses on people whose virus levels are very low but still detectable despite excellent treatment adherence. The goal is to see if this approach can reduce the hidden 'reservoir' of virus and lower detectable virus levels, potentially improving long-term health.
