Scientists test drug to shrink hidden HIV

Summary

This study tested if adding the drug efavirenz to standard HIV treatment is safe and can reduce the hidden, dormant virus that persists even with effective therapy. Seven adults with well-controlled HIV took efavirenz alongside their usual medications for about six months. Researchers measured the amount of hidden virus in blood and lymph nodes before and after treatment to see if it decreased.
