First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested two types of counseling—brief and in-depth—against usual care to help 680 people living with HIV in Zambia reduce unhealthy alcohol use and improve mental health. The goal was to see if these therapies help more people achieve HIV viral suppression (a low level of virus in the blood) at 6 months. Participants were adults on HIV treatment who had hazardous drinking habits and mental health or substance use issues.
