Scientists probe why HIV drug might work differently as we age

NCT ID NCT06132386

Summary

This study aimed to understand how aging affects specific enzymes in the body that are needed to activate a common HIV prevention and treatment medication. Researchers collected blood and colon tissue samples from 21 adults of different ages, including people with HIV, people taking the drug for prevention, and people not taking it. By comparing enzyme levels across age groups and medication use, they hoped to learn if the drug's effectiveness might change as people get older.
