New pain block may help hip surgery patients get comfortable faster
NCT ID NCT07467356
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two types of nerve blocks—anterior iliopsoas space block and PENG block—to see which helps patients with hip fractures get into position for spinal anesthesia more easily and with less pain. About 90 adults undergoing hip surgery will receive one of the blocks before anesthesia. The goal is to improve comfort and reduce the need for extra pain medication.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show a better way to reduce pain and make spinal anesthesia positioning easier for hip surgery patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The blocks may not work better than standard care.
