New needle treatment could ease stubborn hip pain without surgery
NCT ID NCT05710627
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a minimally invasive procedure called TENEX for people with chronic hip pain from Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS). The procedure uses ultrasound guidance to partially release tight tendons around the hip. Researchers will compare pain levels and quality of life in 150 adults who receive TENEX versus standard care, aiming to see if it reduces pain and improves daily activities like walking and standing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
TENEX device (ultrasound-guided percutaneous tenotomy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new outpatient option for people with stubborn hip pain who haven't improved with other treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small early-stage trial, and the procedure may not work better than standard care. There are also typical risks of any needle-based procedure, like infection or temporary soreness.
